Rebuild complex PDF reading order into Word

Detect column gutters from text geometry, keep left and right reading flows separate, and merge hard-wrapped lines into editable paragraphs.

Export native DOCX or clean Markdown without uploading the document.

Current boundary: this version reconstructs selectable text flow and headings. It does not yet re-embed floating illustrations, mathematical formulas or complex borderless tables; scanned pages need OCR first.
PDF content stays in local browser memory.

User guide

How to use PDF Layout to Word

Detect likely columns, rebuild reading order, and export editable paragraphs to DOCX.

  1. 1

    Upload a text-based PDF.

  2. 2

Run coordinate extraction and column analysis.

  3. 3

Review detected reading order and paragraph breaks.

  4. 4

Export the DOCX and complete any visual cleanup in Word.

Best for

  • Two-column academic papers
  • Editable drafts from reports

Important limitation

PDF stores positioned drawing instructions rather than document semantics; exact fonts, footnotes, equations, figures, and complex tables cannot always be reconstructed.

Frequently asked questions

How are two columns detected?

The analyzer looks for a sustained vertical whitespace gap and partitions text by horizontal position.

Will Word match the PDF exactly?

No. The goal is readable editable structure, not guaranteed pixel identity.

PDFPerch processes files locally unless this guide explicitly identifies a cloud-dependent feature. Always keep an original copy and verify critical output before submission, printing, signing, or accounting use.
